I Am Enough!

Quick, go look in the mirror and look yourself in the eyes. When you can do this for about 20 seconds, you'd be surprised how many people can't do this, and tell your self, "I am enough." What you are enough of is up to you. Are you smart enough? Pretty enough? Funny enough? It can be any of those things, it can be anything.

I guarantee you, you are enough at most things. You know, the first thing I learned in my very first Philosophy class was that perfection is not something anyone should strive for. It makes for sadness in life. You are not perfect...but you are excellent. You are worthwhile, you are good, great, amazing, and awesome. But you are not, and never will be perfect. Throw that thought out and tell yourself each and everyday, "I am enough..."

Today I was enough with my marathon training. It was the first day that I felt that I could be a runner forever. With a little help from, "Break My Stride" by Matthew Wilder, I ran for a mile and half without stopping. I have NEVER done this before. So today and everyday, I am enough. And you know what, you are too.

How does three years pass by so quickly?

Three years ago:
I was finishing my degree in Philosophy.
Sidra was 4 years old.
We had just moved back to Los Angeles.
We didn't even know what Etsy really was.
Vincent and I were both unemployed and quite broke.
We lived in a crappy apartment.
BUT we also had a dream three years ago.

Then (2008)

That dream was Have It Sweet. It all started three years ago on September 2nd on Etsy. We made about five different types of Caramel: Vanilla, Fleur de Sel, Belgian Chocolate, Earl Grey, and Spiced Vanilla. That was it. They were all individually wrapped in wax paper and I used to hand sew bags to send them in. Wow, I can't believe how we've changed.

Now (2011)

We started offering Nougats first, then Marshmallows shortly after. The best part of our job, besides knowing we actually make people smile, is creating new and exciting flavors. We love to continually grown and streamline our products and the way we work.

So on this, our three year anniversary, we are going to have a very special giveaway. Starting August 30th to September 6th you will have a chance to win a $65.00 Gift Certificate from Have It Sweet. It can be used at any time and it doesn't expire. Perfect for the holidays coming up! When you place an order, each and every item gets you an entry. It's been...

As you can imagine, it's been pretty hectic trying to catch up on orders. It has been a hell of a month. Never thought I'd have such a tough one. All in all I think we did really well. We just kept getting hit with the unexpected but here we are, almost our three year anniversary in business. We may be behind but we're going strong.

We're both very proud of how we handled this situation and now know we can handle anything that the universe hands us.

Thank you so much to all of you who have been and continue to be so patient and wonderful and kind. You are truly wonderful and we appreciate you. While I can't promise nothing will ever happen to us that may hinder production again, I can say that I bet we're safe for at least another three years. ;0)

Could it be? Is it she?

It has officially been a month since we lost Abbey. We have been met with a lot of loops, twists and turns over the past month. I am not a fan of any of those things. But the wonderful thing is...today is a new day. After bed rest and finally having my body back to myself I feel like I am me again. Would I have bucked my all natural ways and had the surgery if I had to do it again? Nope, yes, it took a long time for us to part ways and it was hell but I wouldn't do it differently.

But I now realize what it is to move on and leave the past in the past. I was something I wasn't able to do yet up until a few days ago. But now, I'm ready. I feel ready. I feel better, I feel great actually.

We have our calender booked up, and are trying to catch up on 300 orders, it is obviously going to take us some time. Luckily my sister is going to help on her days off. So woo hoo for that.

Thank you all again so very much for standing by us and making us realize what kindness truly is. If ever you feel the world is bleak, unfriendly place I invite you to email me for a reminder of how amazing it is to be here on this beautiful planet with so many amazing people.

FINALLY!!!! I am on mandatory bed rest for 4 days and then I should be pretty much back to my old routine.

Blunt

Okay, I am taking a ten. I have to get this down and it's going to be blunt.

It has been a very tough, I'll say it TERRIBLE two and half weeks. I have tried so hard to put on a brave and happy face. I woke up for the first time this morning feeling joyful. It was a great feeling.

I have yet to physically heal. It has been hell. I am using "heal" to mask the more vivid terms, if I don't heal in the next two weeks I have to head to hospital to help this along. I have tried so hard to ensure this doesn't have to happen which is mentally fatiguing and physically sickening.

I am telling you this not for sympathy but so that you truly understand why it is taking us so long to catch up. I can work for about an hour at a time before I have to sit down and rest. Putting all the weight on Vincent, who is amazing and a trooper. We usually ship 50 packages every two days, right now I am struggling to ship 10 a day.

But you know what, this will pass. I know and you know it will. I had no idea how many people have gone through the same thing, while I wouldn't wish this on anyone it is a comfort to know that we are not alone not matter the issue.

Why? Sometimes it's just the best thing to do.

Yesterday a friend of mine asked why we didn't close up for a bit after we lost Abbey. I didn't even have to think about it. My dad NEVER in all his life took a sick day. My mom either. My Step-Dad and Step-Mom both also never took any time off. Bad things happened, people died. Parents, cousins, friends but they were always ready to work the next business day. It is something I was raised with. They always seemed to be so occupied with work there was no time for sadness. It is something deeply ingrained in me.

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with taking time off, believe me I could easily use about two weeks as I'm still physically recovering. But I will say this, work really does take your mind off the sadness. When I get home it's not as easy to forget.

So it was easy for me to answer why we didn't close up shop for two weeks. This is our lives, this is our day job. We also have a very great love for what we do and that love makes going to work joyful.

Changes

As many of you know we were all set to open a storefront/have our own kitchen in Beverly Hills next month. Well we had to turn them down, which I won't lie, felt kind of cool to turn down Beverly Hills. We started to really look at ourselves and ask, "why are we doing this? Do we really want a storefront? Etc..." What it comes down to is we both feel that we are straying from our roots, which is an amazing online confections company. If we opened an actual shop we wouldn't be able to keep our online business, that is something that is not acceptable to us. We also started to ask, why? Why was it important? Then we both answered, "because it's something we're programmed to think." We don't need an actual store front to be successful.

Success is a state of mind, and it reflects how you feel about yourself and your business. We started to feel unsuccessful because we didn't have a shop. That is a fantasy, some very successful company do nothing be sell online and mail order only.

It is more important for us to keep our online business thriving. Grow and build. Our own kitchen is still in our future. So are Farmer's Markets, Street Faires and the like but for now we're staying cozy. We plan on updating our site soon, so that is the next big thing for us.

We are really happy with our decision. I leave you with this, don't ever want something just because you are told you should want it. Follow your heart and go with what your soul is telling you. Right now hearts are telling us Online is the place to be.

Inspired

I have a certain code by which I live my life. It is mainly to love myself and others. I try to love in anyway I can, a kind word, a good deed, a hug or a smile. I have always been on the fence with Karma. I do believe that what we sow we reap but the "rule of three" law I wasn't so sure about. Until Wednesday and I'll leave it at that. As the days have gone by I have begun to become inspired, very inspired. Then this morning I read this by Andrea at Sacred Suds. I was truly amazed.

On Thursday Vincent and I decided to become Vegetarians again (I guess we need to get on those Vegetarian Marshmallows) and it has felt great. Then yesterday, we started getting up at 6:00 am to walk/jog before work. It felt amazing (okay it didn't quite feel amazing, when I got home this morning I almost threw up)!

So while I continue to live my life I realize that I have to live by my code, I loved the little angel that I will not get to hold. I love each and every one of you who has showed me that you need not meet someone in the flesh to be a friend. I have a new appreciation for the smart and beautiful little lady I have. I love her to pieces. I love my friends and family and I love my wonderful husband who is always a rock. I know it hit him harder then he lets on, he wanted this baby so badly but he is a wonderful man who would never show his disappointment because he wouldn't want me to feel worse.

I have so much awesome around me that I am bursting with love. I am inspired to take my life on a new path of health and harmony. So that's it, I set off now to walk the road I am meant to walk. There are many great things in our future. Have It Sweet is growing (we made a HUGE decision which we'll tell you all about later), my family is flourishing, I have made great friends both in the real world and online and we are headed into the best time of the year....Holiday season. Love it, hug it, embrace it and live it to the fullest....that is my addendum to my code.

Don't be quiet...let it out!

Since finding out on Wednesday that we lost our little baby, who I call Abbey because it was her name (I know she was a girl) I have met countless women who miscarried too. Friends and family included who never said a word. I started to wonder why? Why do we feel the need to suffer alone? It is not a failure on anyones part but we learn that we shouldn't speak a word of our pregnancies until we're at least 3 months pregnant? Why? The people we tell we're pregnant are the very same we'd want to grieve with. It is really a terrible thing to lose a baby, yes that is what happens. It's not just a miscarriage. But to keep it inside and not find solace in the kindness of those who love you adds to the sadness.

I have found the most amazing human beings on the planet. Each and everyone of you who took the time to let us know that you care about us even though you had never met us is amazing to say the least. To those of you who have been there with us and shared a hug and a tear thank you.

Don't be embarrassed, frightened, unwilling to share your sadness. You lost your child. I can imagine the child Abbey would have been.P If she was anything like her sister, Sid, she would have given her dad and I run for our money. But she, like all of the other spirit babies, will be with us in our hearts and souls...always.

So today I try to go back to my schedule, slowly. It's going to take a lot of time to heal. But all of you ladies and gentlemen too who have gone through the same ordeal know that as time passes life goes back to "normal". This is for all of you who have lost a baby. My heart is with you always.

As you all know we were expecting a baby in February. We found out today that we miscarried. It's not an easy day for us as we were looking so forward to having a new baby. It is, I know in my heart, for the best.

We have a mission here in our Universe. Each of us has one. For some it may be to become millionaires, some may want inner peace and contentment or even total happiness. You may make it your life's mission to travel the world or start a Non-Profit. All of those are worthy missions. I was lucky enough to find another human being who has my exact same mission. That mission is to help others in whatever ways we can. In fact we started Have It Sweet to do just that, yes, of course we make money doing it too but the feeling we get when we give is unlike any we get when we just receive. So this week is one in which you can nominate someone who really deserves something sweet, a pick-me-up. Tell us why they need one in the comments below.

Slow down and Enjoy or Your Happiness is Important Too!

This little princess brings me more joy than I thought possible.

I am going to be honest, I really love what I do. With all of my heart and soul, but what do I love as much or even a bit more? Spending time with my family and friends and relaxing. It was a lovely long weekend and even though we did work, which was super fun too, we had a bit of time off. My Mom and Dad II were here and it was my little sister's 32nd birthday. We went to The Getty, worked, napped, worked, BBQ'd, worked, watched fireworks and did a little more work. I know that I won't be going on vacation anytime soon and I am so okay with that. If I can have weeks that are filled with both work and fun and some relaxation, I am a happy person, a loving person, a friendly person and a person who truly loves life.

So I stopped rushing all the time, being so worried about time is not good for one's well being. Besides, do you ever notice that when you're rushing the day flies by? So when I made the choice to stop looking at the clock, setting alarms, making schedules I noticed my days go by slower and it has really been something that has brought me so much happiness. In the morning I get up, I tell myself what the day will be like, I plan it in my head and see it unfolding. Okay, a few things don't get done once in a while but in the grand scheme of life does it matter if the clothes get washed everyday or the carpet is vacuumed? It doesn't, you won't remember those things when your older. You will remember the joy on your friends, childrens, partners, sisters, etc... faces just by spending time with them. Loving them, playing with them, having fun with them.

We are both advocates of happiness and no rushing. So take a day this week and stop looking at the clock. Do what brings YOU joy, not someone else, YOU. If you are not, "in joy" you can't truly bring those you love and even just like joy. So take a day sometime really soon and enjoy yourself. Tell yourself, "I Love You" and mean it. Take some time to slow down and enjoy, not just those around you, but yourself.

Where are we going???

We wanted to make a small and kind big announcement that the last day to place orders online until September/October will be July 31st 2011. After that we'll be getting our B&M ready for opening in September 2011. We're so excited. Everything will always be 100% handmade by us but with some employees, online order time will be cut in half so hooray for everyone!

What a weekend!

Don't get me wrong, it was truly a beautiful weekend. It was also full of hard goodbyes though. We lost our beloved kitty of 12 years, Salem, on Saturday. It was not easy but we're so happy that she passed on her favorite blankie in her own home. She was truly amazing.

We finally caught up, I was much better this weekend so we worked really hard to get everything up to date. So happy about that.

It was quite a weekend but I am so thankful for it. Hoping your weekend was lovely too.

When I think of all of the things there are in the world that are wonderful I can't help but think about why it's so easy to fall into negative thought patterns and fearful attitudes. I am, as you may have noticed a pretty upbeat person. I am an optimist through and through. I believe that there is many more great things in the world than bad, even thought the media tries to convince one otherwise. I see goodness in my child, her friends, my friends, strangers, family, just about everyone.

Don't get me wrong I am not nieve, the world is not all sunshine and rainbows. But I know this, without a little rain you can't appreciate the rainbow. Today I woke up in a very happy mood. For once no nausea, it is sunny and the prisms in my window are displaying rainbows like crazy (this makes me VERY happy), I had a waffle for breakfast, the house was clean when I left for work. It's a short day for me (not for the hubs) and I get to be with my little girl today. I have so much to feel grateful. My life is one big blessing.

So this beautiful Saturday, what are you blessed with or grateful for. Or both. ;0)

***I want to say thank you all for the amazing feedback you gave me. Sometimes life can seem very black and white but there are so many in between colors. We're gonna see it through, it can be a lot but let's face it running your own business is a lot. It's the best thing in the universe but it IS a lot of work. I think I need to learn how to better handle all the different facets of business. :0) Thank you again for your amazing input.

I'm gonna be honest, I like Facebook, I do. But I also really don't like it all. It feels like a big popularity contest which I don't want to be entered into. When I lose a fan, I seriously get bummed and I obsess about it for days. "What did I say?" "Did they hate their order?" "Did I over plug our business?" Then I read a great article about online detoxing. It basically called for eliminating the things that aren't working for you and aren't bringing you joy in your business. Facebook isn't. One of the biggest reasons though is I feel that a blog and FB are redundant. I post the same "articles" and photos on both our blog and FB so I think that because I can freely write here this is the best choice for us.

I hope you'll stick with us as we're changing the format here a bit. We'll be adding some great new content and of course keeping you updated on Have It Sweet.

What are your opinions? Not on us but how you feel about FB and blogging, twitter, linkinden and all the other ways to "stay in touch"?

It's gonna get a bit more real "up in here"

I have always been a bit on the fence about being myself on my blog. You hear so many conflicting do this and do that to make people like you. Last night I was thinking, if someone doesn't like you for who you are then well to be frank, tough.

I'm gonna tell you a little about me, the real me. I am 35, Mother of a 6 year old beautiful girl and pregnant with my second child. I have been married for 13 years this year to the most wonderful human being who is also my business partner. We together have grown Have It Sweet for the past two and half years. We were flat broke and all we had on our side was a couple of degrees that seemed to yield no work and a dream to own a food business. We've done so well these last two or so years that we decided it's time to open an actual shop. It's a very exciting time for us. We're most happy to have employees. A shorter turnaround time for our online customers and a huge local clientele.

You know what? You can do it too! I am not going to tell you it's not difficult at times. If you want any advice from two people who made something from absolutely nothing, ask away. I don't believe in the impossible, competition, or failure. There is more than enough room for success for every person on the planet who is willing to work for it. I am not saying you have to work hard for money, but owning a business is hard work. Especially at the beginning. At the same time it is the most amazing and freeing experience we have ever had!

So yea, I swear sometimes. I am straight forward. I am a sweet, funny, kind, and I treat people how I want to be treated (unless I'm treated rudely. Hey, I'm not a saint.)

So while you're hear, if you have any questions about starting or growing your business you ask away! It may take me a few days to get a great answer but I will.

I know I hardly post once a week and today twice, crazy. But we just found out we're pregnant! Big ol' fat plus sign and then the digital one that actually says, "pregnant" we are so very excited. I think our 6 year old is going to ask every day, "how much longer til' the baby gets here?" She's asked ten times today.

So an even bigger Happy Father's Day to my amazing husband who wanted an other baby so badly. Hooray for babies!

Weekends are... AMAZING!

Well I'm not gonna lie, are just about the best thing ever. Now don't get me wrong, we do work most weekends but we also seem to have less thought of time on the weekends. I think it's because we can't ship so there is no pressure.

This weekend is Father's Day and in keeping with tradition, we're working. V (Have It Sweet's Chef and a dad) doesn't mind, just like I don't mind working on Mother's Day. Maybe a BBQ when we get home.

This weekend we want to send out some sweet vibes to all the daddy's who make their kids lives better just by being there and loving their children. Thank you to all the amazing and wonderful dad's out there that enrich the lives of their son's and daughter's.

My little sweetlings

I am very lucky that I not only get the pleasure of my dream job but that I get to spend so much wonderful and amazing time with my little girl. She is the joy and light of our lives. But this particular stage of her life she is truly magical. Everything is full of whimsy, my favorite, and joy. She loves everything, is very dramatic if the tiniest of things doesn't work out. Has a killer sense of humor and is all around awesome. Yes, I know everyone feels this way about their kids and I am happy to be counted among the other wonderful parents out there that think the sun rises and sets with their children. Yesterday she stayed home sick, which means I stayed home sick too. She ended up with an allergic reaction to something and her little eyes were swollen shut. As I watched her sleep it off I thought of how amazing my life is that I get to be with her and still live the dream. I am so filled with joy when I work and I have the same joy when I'm home. I am so thankful and grateful that I get to share my life with this wonderful little sweetheart who for some reason chose me for her mother. I also get to share my joy everyday with all of our amazing customers. When I get an email, convo, feedback, etc. it beyond makes my day. This little confections company that is building into something really big is just a dream come true. Thank you Sidie for letting me have the joy of you and thank you to all you wonderful people who help us live our dream. You are our sweetlings!

It has been a little bit but I'm back and I brought bunnies. Well I brought some super sweet Spring lovelies for your eyes. I really hope the Easter Bunny remembers me this year and brings me anything from lucileskitchen I have looked at each and every work of art and I can't choose so I'll let the bunny decide for me.

Well somewhere it has I'm sure. Usually it would already be warm here in LA but this year it's still cold and rainy. I thought the Groundhog saw its shadow. Hmmmm. Well since it's pretty chilly and the sun is nowhere in sight I thought I'd show you some of the things that have me giddy for spring and the sun to show his face.

First let me tell you how much I adore the whole circle thing. I would never found so many amazing shops without it.

I found these wonderful Lip Balms by PhoenixBotanicals They are organic and in eco friendly lip tubes. I can't even decide which to try first. Good thing they have them in sets.

I love buying dresses for my little girl. I am always torn though because she is a girly-girl/tomboy who likes to roll around in the mud in a fancy dress. We usually get hand me downs from friends because of this but I would make an exception for these beautiful made-to-order dresses by OllieBeans they are just beautiful. It's says they only go up to 6 but I asked for a 7 and the shop owner said it's not a problem to make them larger. So this is the perfect Easter or spring dress for your little girl.

It's been too long...Window Shopping

Home from a long day at work and I have a half an hour because I am the greatest mom in the world and told my kid she could watch TV for a bit. Ah, sweet free time.

I thought it was time to do some window shopping (yes, I wrote shipping first. Gotta keep with tradition.) These are my favorite things but I refuse to call them that in title because I'm not Oprah or Martha. Instead these are the little things I dream about, pine for, adore from a far.

I hope you enjoy them. I hope it won't be so long between Window Shopping moments again. I really enjoy them.

KuDum is making some pretty amazing crocheted goodies. Look at this dog. No walking him, no feeding him, no picking up little dog treats on your neighbors lawn. The perfect pet.

I can't believe how much I want this. I have been thinking about it for days. Then I saw it on the front page of Etsy today and I thought, "it's a sign" but then I thought "this will look terrible encrusted with caramel and marshmallow goo." When I have lackeys this is the first thing I'll buy. Nest Pretty Things by Tamar for now I will pine from a far but not for too long I hope.

This I bought, yea I bought it! I have no will power when it comes to food. There are you happy? I admitted it. I saw Scrumptulicious and couldn't resist. Look at the photos, I mean really look at them. You can almost taste the cookies they're so good. She is also a sweetheart so that's a plus. I chose Key Lime, Meyer Lemon, Lavender Lemon, Sweet Almond and two more which I won't cop to because Mr. Have It may read this and I am not sharing those.

I will, yes will, someday live by the sea. My dream is where there is a lighthouse and it's super cold in the winter and wonderfully warm in the summer. I can taste the salt air and walk on the beach barefooted most of the day and into the night. Maybe Ina Garten will be my neighbor and she'll invite me over when Jeffrey is in New York on business. I'm pretty sure that's gonna happen. So until it does I stare at this because I absolutely love it. studiotuesday is just wonderful and all of their artwork is truly fanciful and makes me happy.

Well that's it for tonight. Apparantly a half an hour is too much to ask because I now have to repair a clay dog house.

We're back!

After 4 days off we're back. We didn't actually choose to have them off it was a crazy random happenstance that we had no kitchen space available to us. But we made the best of it and had an amazing birthday weekend! Now we're back, today was our first day and it was only a half. We got our Teeny Tiny Bars ready for the gift bags for an Oscar After Party at the Boom Boom Room. Thanks to some amazing friends who made that happen.

We're working on orders from the 10th-15th so bear with us while we catch-up. Not that we're behind or anything but you know.

Happiness

I'm just going to come right out and ask, what makes you happy? I mean really and truly happy. Filled with joy and bliss, want to scream from the mountain tops "I've got the joy, joy, joy, joy, down in my heart"?

I have been thinking about this a lot lately and quite a few things that I thought made me happy really are just habits and while they aren't unbearable they aren't happiness inducers either.

While I was thinking about happiness I noticed that I can be a terrible friend. I take my friends for granted, never call them or let them know that I am thinking of them which couldn't be further from the truth as I adore all of them. I think of them on a daily basis but how would they know that? I, as you know, am reading "The Happiness Project," which has some great ideas, many of which I have begun using. I have decided that a simple thing I can do is to send all of my friends and family members a birthday card for their birthdays. I did well although I did miss a few so they're late. It did feel great though. I made an Excel spreadsheet with their names, addresses and birthdays. It took about an hour. I asked everyone I know on Facebook for their information, which I have to say is harder than I thought. I have to keep pestering everyone. So far I have the bulk but until I have them all I am on a quest. This is my happiness and theirs dammit! ;0)

Everyone enjoys a card. Everyone enjoys being acknowledged on their special day. It's a little something I can do to let them know that even though I loathe the phone and most likely will never call them, I do think of them all of the time and that they are an important part of my life.

What do you do that brings happiness to others and yourself? I love new ideas so give me some.

Happy Birthday to ME!!!! Window Shopping for my Birthday

I am not what you'd call someone who is super "adult". I still sleep with my stuffed bunny, I adore her and she is a pillow of love and comfort. My side of our bedroom has character to say the least. Okay it looks like a cluttered little kids room but I love it and I wouldn't have it any other way. So for todays edition of Window Shopping I found some amazing little items to add to my collection of wonderful stuff. I hope you love everything.

I adore anything by thelittlereddoor but I hadn't seen these until the other day when we were featured in a rainbow treasury together. I absolutely need these A-Z Houses, yes I need them!

I am thinking of buying this, blowing it up to window size and having it pasted to my window so it looks like my view. Thank you countrywindows for this feast for the eyes. It has two of my favorite things on the planet, bridges and streams.

You don't even have to know me that well to know that I am an absolute soap fiend. I can't pick a favorite soap nor a favorite soap maker. I have never tried anything I didn't love. I think these will adorn my shower next, blushie makes a feast for the eyes and I bet that they smell and lather just as perfectly.

In case you hadn't noticed I have a bit of thing for rainbows. I truly have a problem with anything that doesn't have a full spectrum of colors. I need them all for it to please my eye. ;0) I can just see this on my bed sukanart makes the cutest pillow covers but this one is my favorite.

Since this is for my birthday I had to include a bit of nostalgia. When I was a kid if my cake didn't have these jimmies on them it just wasn't a birthday. My mom ordered my cake from the same place every year and it was white frosting, which I can still taste...mmmmmmm, and little sprinkles like this. CupcakeSocial has these sprinkles and more. I think I need some paper straws for the summer.

Window Shopping...For Mystery (duh, duh, duh)

I am a mystery freak! I can't get enough. Miss Marple, Poirot, Inspector Lynley, J.B. Fletcher. I don't care who is doing the sleuthing I just want to watch them doing it. On the flip side of that coin I am truly awful at figuring out who done it. I mean abyssmal. I think in twelve years of reading and watching mysteries I have solved two cases. I think I have only won one game of Clue too. It's not pretty. But still I adore it so I'll keep watching and reading and I'll leave the clue finding and murderer napping to the pros. Kudos to these amazing artisans who created some wonderful finds that may make me a better detective (though probably not).

All detectives need a monocle in my opinion. This Monocle by ReneeLoughlin is just what the detective ordered.

It is no mystery that Sherlock Holmes is one of the world's most famous detectives. It's also no mystery that is purse by SmartGirlsArt is awesome! I mean it's elementary my dear Watson. ;0)

If it weren't for these meddling kids who knows how many cartoon crimes would go unsolved? weelittlestitches has this amazing little cross stitch PDF of Scooby and the whole gang.

Weekend Window Shopping

When I think back to my happiest memories of childhood they usually include the weekends when my mom took my little sister and I to Los Gatos for mommy/daughter shopping days. There was an amazing toy shop named Tex's Toys. It was filled floor to ceiling with toys, it was truly magnificent. Then next door was Bears In The Woods. Yes, you guessed it...bears. Stuffed, porcelian, china, bears of all chapes and sizes. Ugly and cute. My sister had a formidable Muffy Vanderbear collection so my mom would let her stock up on weekends. It was always so much fun. Now both stores are a memory which makes me sad. But the memories of Saturday shopping never left me so here are some finds that remind me of those carefree days as a kid.

I am the proud owner of one of these amazing little needle-felted bears from scratchcraft They are so well made and adorable. I know for sure if Bears In The Wood were still open they would be selling them.

I adore bubbletime each and every adorable felt creature is cuter than the next. I have pet mice, which I adore so this little fella had to be featured.

There is no way a kid is going to walk by a bakery without begging to go inside for a cookie. These just scream "YUMMY". SaltCityPatisserie makes them all natural and as organic as she can plus, she's wonderful.

When I was a kid there were miniature stores everywhere. I am not joking. I had a box devoted to my miniature collection. What happened to it I'll never know. It's probably with my class ring that disappeared a week after I got it. The box of miniatures I miss though. I still imagine finding it and opening it. It would be like finding a million dollars to me. I digress, DIVINEsweetness has beautiful and detailed miniatures. From desserts to foxes, you'll love them.

I can't even believe I found this on Etsy. I had this very travel kit when I was a kid. They so don't make awesome toys like this anymore. Thanks HeyYoYo you totally made my weekend.

So a few posts ago I mentioned that I was going to start writing. Well the research has begun. I'm very happy about it and digging out my old college notes and finding books at used bookstores. Even the amazing iTunesU courses I have found really have renewed by passion for Philosophy, which is the subject of my book.

I decided to marry my post with Window Shopping today. Side note: I can never type "shopping" right out of the gate. I always type "shipping" first.

Window Shopping...Roses

I love roses, the smell especially. They remind me of many things most of all though a time gone by. They have a shabby chic and vintage look. I will never forget when we lived in New York the Union Square Farmer's Market had the most amazing antique roses. I still can see them vividly. Today I was window shopping for roses and I found some beauties.

While this technically isn't edible tell me you couldn't just eat this up. I mean it's perfection. PetitPlat make some of the most detailed and beautiful miniature food I have ever seen.

There is nothing I like more than shopping. Well shopping for handmade on Etsy is really my favorite but any shopping will do in a pinch. Once a day I will showcase some awesome finds I've made while window shopping handmade. I hope you enjoy.

My kiddo calls them candy sandwiches. I call them amazing. French Macarons have quickly become a favorite of mine. These look beyond amazing.

I love soap. Heaven help me I do so love soap. I also adore Jane Austen so this soap by Latherati is right up there with wonderful things. Believe me I know. Her soap is in my shower as we speak. I also love her perfume roll-ons.

Loving What You Do

Well do you? I have recently began to think about life. Mainly when I come to the end of mine will I be able to look back and say I was happy and that I lived my life to the fullest. So far, it's a good start. Went to college. Married a great person whom I love very much. We had a beautiful daughter together. We have a really great business that we started with absolutely nothing and are very proud of. Now before you think I'm bragging, I'm not. I am just grateful, very grateful for what I have and I think saying it is a way of giving thanks for it. But what about all the other stuff. You know the stuff I mean. The things you have a passion for. I adore writing and watercoloring. Years ago I had an idea for a children's book. It was pretty great. The more I read about how hard it was to get published the more I discouraged I got, but I never lost the passion for writing. This year, I plan on at least finishing it and illustrating it. Will it get published? Maybe. Will I write it just to be published, no way. In the end, I love my work, both what I do for income and what I do because it inspires me. It gives me a reason to wake up in the morning and get off my back side.

Do you love what you do? If not, what do you love and can you make that a part of your daily life? I am always inspired by what gives other's a reason to wake up in the morning. Give me some inspiration!

Trying new things

Everyone gets complacent. We get comfy, form routines. Why? They are just that comfortable and they work for us most of the time. I don't know about you but I get bored very easily, might be my hyper nature (which is now called ADHD, I'll stick with hyper thank you). Every few months I have to shake it up. This month we signed up to do sampler boxes with Sampler Village and we're really so happy about it. So if you are up for a box of super fun and delicious treats you should check them out. Our confections will be in Traci's sampler boxes in March and May 2011.

It has been truly gorgeous here in SoCal. 70+ days and lovely nights. We're happily enjoying our last day off for a while. It has been so nice to unwind after a really hectic holiday season. It took us a bit to recover.

We're looking so forward to Valentine's Day this year. We are in love with our little Love Birds. I just adore the packaging too.

Spring is going to be lovely too. Our Marshmallow Chicks are always popular and we think they'll be more so this year with their cute little boxes and beautiful hand blended all natural colors.

We're also looking so forward to being written up in a Handmade Marshmallow article by Stephanie Zonis and being featured with other amazing edibles Etsians on Foodography on Food TV with Mo Rocca.

Unexpected

Yesterday morning we found out that Vincent's oldest friend was killed in a car accident. As you can imagine it was, and still is quite a shock. She was truly a wonderful person and was an amazing mother to her young son. Her family is devastated as is everyone who knew her.

Yesterday Vincent and I were in a bit of a daze but we figured that maybe work would take our minds off of it. She adored Queen and even had a tattoo. I don't think I have ever heard Queen songs played so frequently on the radio as they were yesterday. In a way it made us both think her wonderful energy and amazing light has not been extinguished, she is now part of all that knew her and loved her. She will always be with her son, mother, sisters, brother, family, friends, and work colleagues.

While time is truly the cure for the sadness that is felt right now, knowing she is there in spirit watching over everyone is a comfort.

This is our very first year not being up in Northern California for Christmas and it's going to be weird. Fun but just odd. We have our first regular sized tree, our first house, I finally feel like a grown up but the little kid in me is still a bit sad that we won't be with our huge Italian family for Christmas.

We are going to try and start a new tradition but we're unsure of what to do. Do you have any ideas? What are your traditions. I would love to know.

So the holiday season is upon us once again. It really is so magical this year. Not sure why this year is any different but maybe it's because our kiddo is at that perfect age where she is genuinely excited for Christmas and Hanukkah (yes, we celebrate both). We have our tree decorated and this is our first real tree. Well it's fake but I got these awesome little doohickies and they smell like a fresh tree. You hang them like ornaments. We have our Menorah in the window all ready for the first night. It's so wonderous.

It's also the first year in my 34 years on the planet where I will not be at my place of birth for the holidays. I am excited but also a bit sad.

It may not always feel wintery in LA but my mood sure is. I am so filled with anticipation for Winter I am a bit surprised I haven't already bought a tree and decorated it.

I just wanted to drop by and say hello. It's getting very, very busy for us so I won't have a huge amount of time to blog but I will drop by with announcements from time to time.

Our copy of Real Simple is out in some bookshops and grocery stores now. It's so weird to see the work you do in print. I will never get over it. Thank you Real Simple.

We are accepting Thanksgiving orders until November 14th (will ship on the 20th)

We are accepting Hanukkah orders until November 21st (will ship on the 26th)

We are accepting Christmas orders until December 15th (will ship on the 18th)

The Winter Holiday orders are tenative. Due to a high volume of orders we may have to stop taking Christmas orders sooner than the 15th.

I am always shocked at how quickly the holiday season approaches. It is the first week of November and before you know it we'll be carving the turkey, lighting the candles on the Menorah and singing carols around the Christmas tree. It's madness. It's my favorite time of year. It's also our busiest time of year. It goes by like a flash and all we want for Christmas is massages.

We have introduced a few new Holiday Marshmallows this year. Our Marshalomallows and our Jingle Mallows. Both are perfect for celebrating whatever it is you celebrate. We celebrate both so it's super fun for us this year to have two new Marshmallows for both holidays. Hooray!

Both Marshmallows are our light and fluffy Vanilla Marshmallows coated in our signature hand blended all natural colored sugars. We don't use anything synthetic and as always no preservatives, trans fats or high frustose anything. A bit sad but...

So we shipped the last of our Halloween ghosties and marshmallows today and I can't believe it's going to be Halloween this weekend. I know it's trite but seriously time flies by too quickly. We're bracing for a very busy holiday season which we're super excited about. Still it's coming on so quickly. We were walking our kiddo to school today and I realized it's only a blink of an eye until were heading to her holiday concert. My only holiday wish is that everyday will drag a bit. No more waking up at 7:00am and then all of sudden it's midnight. I would like the days to crawl. Please Santa, I have been super good.
